Apartment Review
Poor managemnt, unethical practices

Pine Bluffs Apartments & Pets When we filled out our ‘interest’ card before signing a 3 month lease to move in to Pine Bluffs, we clearly stated that we had two medium sized dogs. Pine Bluffs also wants to know the breeds of dogs in the apartments, so they can avoid ‘aggressive’ breeds, so they were listed on the card. Our dogs each weigh less than 50lbs, so we were well under the 100lb weight limit that was specified. When we signed the lease, our leasing agent (Toni) asked about our dogs. We clearly told her that we had two wonderful dogs, and discussed their breeds with her. After living at Pine Bluffs for a little over two months, we received a notice on our door that we owed an additional $260 for pet deposit and pet rent for the previous couple of months. We immediately went to the office and spoke with Renee, the office manager. She stated that our pet addendum on our lease specifies a pet deposit and pet rent for each pet. In fact, it DID NOT specify that the fees were per pet. In fact, it stated that ‘pets’ cannot exceed 100lbs, and you can have no more than two pets per apartment. During this discussion we asked to see our original interest card where the breeds of both were clearly stated. Of course, that card was mysteriously missing from our file. I also want to point out that our neighbor (across the breezeway) had a dog that barked CONSTANTLY when she wasn’t home. The staff did nothing about this despite complaints from several tenants. After my pregnant wife had a very disturbing discussion with Renee, she left the office quite stressed out and angry. As soon as I got home I went to the office to discuss this matter with Renee. She re-stated the same thing she told my wife, and said she needed to talk to Toni to see what she had to say. A few days later I once again went in to talk with Renee about this situation. She informed me that Toni said she never knew we had two dogs, basically saying that my wife and I are liars. I asked her if she really thought we would seriously try to hide two medium sized dogs in a small apartment. If we were hiding a dog, we certainly wouldn’t walk them together every day, would we? I again left the office. A couple of days later, I went back to the office to resolve the situation. At this point we were less than two weeks from moving out of the apartment, and I wanted to figure out what they were going to do about these illegal fees. This time Renee said ‘I can’t tell you that we’ll waive that fee, but just wait until you get your deposit back. I’ll do what I think is right. Trust me.’ At that point, I, being a fair and just person, gave her the benefit of the doubt. Renee even said that if she doesn’t treat us right, we’ll tell 10 people about it. So with that, I left the office confident that she would take care of things on our deposit. Well, yesterday our deposit check came and was $260 less than we expected it to be. That’s right, they took that $260 ILLEGALLY from our deposit. What’s worse, on the accounting slip, it doesn’t even say what that $260 is deducted for. It simply says “Balance Forward”. This illegal action has not gone unnoticed. Pine Bluffs apartments employs unethical and misleading workers. What’s more, they think they can steal deposit money and nothing will be done about it. Not only am I telling everyone I know about them (which is way more than 10 people), but I’m posting this on every apartment review website I can find, and Pine Bluffs will be reported to the BBB AND the Apartment Association. We’re still considering taking them to small claims court, but the money really isn’t the issue. The issue is that they’re untruthful, unethical, and just plain wrong. I do NOT recommend anyone ever rent from Pine Bluffs, they simply cannot be trusted.
