Apartment Review

Be warry of Greeks baring gifts... When my family first saw this apartment complex, we thought it was going to be THE place. Everything about it screamed beautiful (atleast for what we could afford in Colorado Springs). We went in to check prices and get a tour of the place. Management was so helpful and courteous beyond belief. They got a pool, in door gym, computer room with high speed access, and covered parking completed with guest parking. On top of that they do background checks inwhich I almost did not get in because of my very typical first and last name (Almost like John Smith). Oh the display room was so clean and well kept. They would not show us where we would be living until the leased was sign though... What a gift from Greek Gods this place was... We were shown our place and everything seemed great. We went into our appartment and it was clean for the most part... except where all the dead moths wear by the hundreds (now I have to be fair and say that any where in Colorado Springs you can expect to have dead moths every where in the summer) but I would have expected this to have been cleaned up before we went in. Nothing a good vacuum coudn't fix. About a week went by in the sweat bliss of our new home when it happened... The upstairs neighbors from Hell. Three 18-22 year olds moved in with the help of their parents... Now I will admit I am quick to judge but I tell it exactly as it happened so you can judge for yourself. From what the office told me only 2 males were suppose to be living in the appartment. It was infact 2 males and 1 girlfriend plus dog... They greated us by throwing a huge party that started about 11pm on Friday the day they moved in. The party lasted for about 6 or 7 day in which the music was never turned down and beer bottles were everywhere. My wife and I figured their teenagers with their first place... their gonna party, hell we would too. A week was a little long of a party but what the hell let them have some fun. Sometime during the week I hung my head out of the patio and talked to one of the partiers asking them to turn the music down a little... Appearantly over the course of our minute long conversation he must have forgotten, that or it was the beer/weed that did it. The party finally ended and gave my wife, my (now) 3 year old son, and myself some good quiet time. About 1 AM we were awoken with the same loud music and Vacuuming, guess they had to clean up after all that partying (wish they would have cleaned up all the trash that got thrown down from their party but that is a little much to ask). I went and the tenant this time to ensure that everything went smooth however no one answered the door... maybe the music was to loud to hear me knocking on the door. That night the same loud music started a little earlier and again lasted through the night. Honestly my wife and I thought our son was having night terrors from waking up crying every 30 minutes to an hour but I guess it could have been the noise... he has stopped this practice since we moved out. The maintenance guy new them fairly well and I was friends with him so I asked him to just nicely talk to them about this (I dont like being the squeaky wheel even if it gets the grease). Again that night the same exact thing. This time I filed a formal complaint with the office and was assured they would take care of it. Through out my 10 months at these apartments, this was the exact same thing every day. I did verbal and written complaints, as well as even filed a complaint with the police department. You would think after the police wrote them a ticket from being able to hear it from their car and them having to appear in court that the office would do something about it but they did nothing. Winter came and it became extraordinarily cold in our apartment. We couldnt afford to run the heaters all day because it was so expensive. Come to find out it was so cold in our apartment due to the half inch gap between the door and the floor I never really noticed... I imagine it much colder for my neighbors across the hall who had their door kicked in (but to be fair I have to say it only took 3-4 weeks for the maintenance to fix it). Our issue with the door however, was never fixed by maintenance. After 2 months of charades, I finally fixed it myself. My experience with maintenance was really bad but it could have changed since I've been there as others have claimed good run-ins with them. I will say that there were several problems with the apartment that was never fixed as long as I was there. As far as the indoor gym, its very small but a nice feature. The poor... to cluttered for me to want to jump in. The computers in the computer room always had spyware/viruses on them so dont count on them to do anything but play games thats if they are not down... The "gated community" I guess just means that they can close the gates but you will never see this. The brick size rocks are thrown all over the place just so you know incase you think you ran over one of the 4 year olds running around, its probably just a rock. I think the police only break up 1 meth lab but have to come out multiple times on a daily basis. We ended up having to call the police several more times on our upstairs neighbors. Once was when I my son and I were on the patio enjoying the view of the mountains. I happened to look down and my son was about to put a dime bag of weed in his mouth... I showed it to maintenance and reported it to the police but its just a misdemeanor or whatever... not worth the police investigating. The office still did nothing other than leave a note on their door. The other times I called the police were when my wife called me frantically in the middle of the day to say they were yelling and she heard him scream he was gonna kill the girl and then her loud cries for help followed by choking and things being thrown. The police wouldnt do anything since the 2 were "never there" when the police went to knock on the door. Its was on average about a 2-3 hour response time... drive yourself to the nearest hospital if you get shot in these apartments. Incase you didnt notice, my wife was the first one to write a review which was back in '05. I am only posted because I saw that someone (who I think must work for the apartments) posted that all the negative reviews probably came from problematic people. Maybe some did but I am sure that people that dont have a care in the world would probably not care enough to post on this site. If your single and work weird hours this might be a good place. You can party here but your not suppose to. The parking places are never inforced so expect to have someone parking in your spot. This means that your walk across the complex just turned into a walk around the entire complex. Just a tip if you think that I am disgruntled... make sure when you make ANY complaints that you make a copy of it and send it to them certified mail and that they have to sign for it. This will ensure that they have to comply with the contract you and staff at the complex signed... Afterall why should you have to comply with the contract if they dont... Further more if it become unbareable you can move and have the legal proof and documentation that if they try to take you to court for leaving without notice... they breached the contract not you. I am not an expert in law and you should consult a lawyer before doing anything that could breach the contract but I am just giving some suggestions I wish I had been given.
